From the Story, "Setting the Captives
Free."
A modern tale of spiritual
warfare.
This
is the text of the prologue from the story,
Salem the Soldier in,"Setting the Captives Free."
"But in a great
house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood
and of earth; and some to honor, and some to dishonor. If a man therefore
purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and
meet for the masters use, and prepared unto every good work." II Timothy
2:20-21
From the Lord's exhortation
to Elijah in the wilderness, that "I have yet reserved unto me, seven thousand
in Israel, which have not bowed the knee to Baal". . . to Joshua and Caleb,
who, standing against the fear of the people, when the children of Israel
were on the verge of possessing the promised land, said, "Let us go up at
once, and take it, for the Lord is with us". . . to Gideon, least in Israel
and least in his fathers house, but called of God a mighty man of valor,
who, with a small guerrilla unit of three hundred, defeated the Midianites,
a far superior enemy force. . . to David, who, being a simple shepherd at
the time, boldly stood up to oppose the giant Goliath, an experienced military
man from his youth, and overcame him with a sling and a stone. . . to Isaiah,
who, when the Lord asked for an ambassador to send to the nation of Israel
to call for repentance and faith in the living God alone, saying, "Whom shall
I send, and who will go for us?" he stood forth and said, "Here I am, send
me."
So has the story, the legend,
of the Special Forces Division of the Army of Heaven been told. These are
that small group of highly trained and specially qualified men and women
who have maintained the front lines of the battle between good and evil,
light and dark. Holding to the highest standards, tenacious and committed,
disciplined and dedicated to the service of the Lord, they have stood apart
from the crowd. Against all odds, even though vastly outnumbered, in some
of the darkest periods of the history of man--they have triumphed.
From John the Baptist,
who stood as a beacon of light and a witness to the coming truth, the Saviour,
Jesus Christ. . . to the twelve disciples, who, hand picked by the Lord Himself,
died in his service, establishing the early church. . . to the apostle Paul,
who, after being stoned and cast out of the city of Lystra, got up and promptly
walked back in. . . to Martin Luther and John and Charles Wesley, who, called
to bring the Word of God out of an oppressive, stuffy institution--the religious
machine--and back out on the streets to the common man, where ministry and
revival was so desperately needed. . . to Billy Graham, who, called to preach
to the whole world through the new mediums of television and radio, did so
all his life. And one time worldwide simultaneously, the first to achieve
such an accomplishment in the history of man and the church.
These are they that have
mastered the principles of our warfare, which are these: when attacked with
anger and hate, in the power of the Holy Spirit, they withstood with patience,
restraint and love. When assaulted by fear and unbelief, with faith in God
alone and nothing else, they fought back with courage and trust. When assailed
by egoistic pride and the preoccupation of self, they stood and defended
with humility, self-sacrifice and meekness, realizing the basis of their
status as citizens of Heaven, the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross
of Calvary.
And when the enemy and
the world would beset and surround them on every side, with the most
insurmountable odds and under the most withering rain of fire, the men and
women of the Lord's Special Forces would set their faces like a flint, with
their hearts burning and resolute, setting both feet secure on the ground
and suited up in the Armor of God, the Sword of the Spirit in one hand and
the Shield of Faith in the other, and fight against all odds to the end.
The dark against the light, love against hate.
Win or lose, live or die--never
surrendering. . . .
Their theater of operations
now exclusively encompassing the spiritual realm due to the new covenant,
they continue on through the day to day routine of modern-day life. Understanding
that that which people see, feel, and understand to be reality, their reality,
which they perceive as fact, being physical and concrete, exerts a major
influence on how they consider and react to the circumstances which would
rule their lives. That is the physical realm and its inhabitants. Realizing
their limitations, they deal with unmanageable events and situations, using
whatever limited resources available to them, as best they can. Defenseless
targets for the unseen Dark Angel, the one who would destroy them. Surviving
on the edge of uncertainty, some being pushed even to the edge of hopelessness.
. . .
In this dramatization of
life, the people of the Lord of Heaven: those who walk with Him in their
hearts; these are not wholly subject to the restraining limitations of the
temporal realm, but, being made aware of and moving and residing in the spiritual
domain, centered on and subject to His revealed will, they continually influence
and affect the circumstances transpiring around them through their submission
and faith in Him. As these citizens of Heaven are beset by the harsh conflicts
of life, confident and trusting in only His unlimitless capabilities, they
walk in triumph; Jesus Christ, the Captain of the Host, doing according to
His will in this Army of Heaven.
But the enemy Prince and
his operatives, since the first declaration of the Good News, have doggedly
opposed the Truth and this community of Heaven, and over time, having made
numerous, successful incursions against the crystal-clear spiritual vision
and purpose which they possessed in the beginning, forced them back in their
clouded perspective. In this state, compelling them to abandon their regular
protocol and standard issue weapons, and utilize and trust in inadequate
temporal measures to try and impact the spiritual arena: they then severly
limited their impact and effectiveness, and forced a stalemate in a very
ancient, eternal battle. The flag of Heaven's Special Forces Division did
all but disappear from view.
Despair did prevail. .
. .
Now today, in this modern-day
spiritual realm, amidst this lingering standoff, one young man and his friends
were called to seize the times, and willingly stood up.
And today, in the confusion,
desperation, and dark despair of the end times, the legend of that Division
lives on. . . .
