Dear Valued Friends and Peers,
I was pretty impressed with John Mercer's public persona the few times I saw him questioned in the media concerning his daughter, Heather, and the other Christian foreign aid workers who have been held hostage by the Taliban regime, for "spreading Christianity." Stoic, steady, tall, and professional.
Did everybody see the front page of today's paper (The Press-Enterprise, for you locals) displaying the picture of Heather Mercer, with the aforementioned Senior Mercer, in her death grip? (Attached.)
You know, there are prisons the Lord delivers us from which are metaphorical; intangible; His deliverance quiet and unseen, a personal joy that is sometimes kept secret between an individual and Him as the Holy Spirit and the Word of God blows down invisible spiritual walls in our hearts.
Other prisons are real, something few, if any, of us will probably ever experience, the deliverance perpetrated by earthquakes like in the account of Paul and Silas in Acts 16, or Angels delivering Peter in Acts 5. In Acts 12 when Peter was imprisoned for preaching the Gospel, "... Prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him." And out he came again. There have been many, many Christians in America praying for Heather Mercer, Dayna Curry, and the others, as they have been caught in the middle of the Afghanistan campaign.
I have no doubts the Senior Mercer was faithfully petitioning the LORD for his daughter, that she might be freed. It's a formidable force when a Christian father stands in the door on behalf of his daughter.
And I don't think it a stretch that, within the overall context of this war, the LORD answered him and his, "According to your faith be it unto you," and dispatched the combined forces of the United Stated Armed Forces halfway across the globe to fetch her faithful, self-disciplined, praying Christian fanny from outta' there!
"And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me." (Psalm 50:15)
Good for the Mercer's and the Curry's! Good for these guys! What a wonderful, wonderful thing!
